I got a bunch of old albums that used to belong to my mom and my dad. They're all banged up. This is my blog about organizing them and trying to restore them. That's what I intended it to be at first anyway. Turns out this stuff is so old and so tied to my memories about my family that it's turning into a blog about them too. Sometimes I try to be funny. Maybe a lot of the time? I should probably rewrite this description. Probably won't though.

Elvis Costello - My Aim Is true
This is my favorite Elvis Costello album. All my favorite songs of his are on it. It was in pretty great shape, cleaned up nicely (not that it really needed it), and plays great. When the first track, my very favorite Elvis Costello song, "Welcome to the Working Week" came on, James started shaking his butt and dancing like crazy. It was cute as hell and made me really happy to see.

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
I just saw my two-year-old spontaneously get up and start dancing to "With a Little Help From My Friends." It was the best thing I ever saw.

Billy Preston - The Kids & Me
I remember the album cover. I don't remember the name. No idea what this is all about. Wikipedia says one of the songs is named "Nothing from Nothing" and if that's the song I think it is, it's good. That's about all I got on this one.

The Police - Synchronicity
The cover of this one is weird, different from the version I've seen other places. Maybe it's a re-release. At any rate, this was the last studio album the Police ever made together. All solid tracks. I think it's probably safe to attribute the influence of the song Synchronicity II to my later love of the strange and macabre. Pretty sure it was after I first heard that song that I started reading Poe and Lovecraft. I guess I had pretty sophisticated taste in music for a little kid. This came out when I was eight. And even if this is a rerelease, I remember clearly being into the Police as early as fifth grade.
Sophisticated... I mean. Look, I have already copped to the fact that Sting is king of the Tools and all Toollandia. And lines like:
"If we explode the atom bomb,I mean, look. I'm not claiming the Police are high-art. But I'm totally unashamed of my love of their work. And they beat the entire wardrobe off any of the shit that's new NOW...
Would they say that we were dumb."
Shit. I'm doing old man rant.
Police good. Okay?

Huey Lewis and The News - Sports
I've heard a lot of shit-talk about Huey Lewis lately. Which is weird because I don't think he's even made any music in the last decade or so. Has he done anything recently? I haven't heard it if he has. I kinda figured he was just old and retired and rich now. I dunno. I liked him in the 80s. I'm not gonna claim his music changed the world or anything. His big dumb haircut and his big dumb chin were... big and dumb. But I'm looking at the track list now and it looks pretty good to me. "The Heart of Rock & Roll", "I Want a New Drug", "If This Is It". It was just dumb mindless 80s pop, but so was everything else. It was the fucking 80s. You never hear anybody talking trash about The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Every single song on this album is incredible. Every single god damned song. Is. Incredible. This may be my favorite find so far.
Updated 5/4/2014
This is probably my favorite Stones album so it's a shame how poorly it plays. I cleaned it up and it's not warped. It doesn't have any visible scratches on it and my needle is good and clean. But it crackles a lot the whole time. Not so bad that it's not listenable. But it's noticeable the entire time. The first song, "Gimme Shelter," is probably my favorite track. The best part of that song is the backing vocal by Merry Clayton. The entire album is great though. It opens in side one with my favorite Stones song and closes side two with "You Can't Always Get What You Want," probably their most famous song. There's a county version of "Honkey Tonk Women" called "Country Honk." The title track is incredible. "Midnight Rambler." "Monkey Man." Almost every song on here belongs on a Rolling Stones greatest hits album. Most of them probably have been. I love this album.

Little Feat - Sailin' Shoes
Okay, so this makes more sense. Little Feat was on heavy rotation in my... I'm... I'm sorry, can we just back it up a second? What the fuck just happened back there? Did you see that guy? What... I can't even... So anyway: Little Feat. Um. They were a good band. I remember liking them. Uh, the creepy dude with the big teased out blond... That was too fucking weird back there. I'm sorry. I'm just gonna do a different one.
What the fuck?

Offenbach in America - Boston Pops Orchestra, Arthur Fiedler conductor
Oh, man! Offenbach! And in America! Man, let me tell you, back in the day, we'd kick back with a couple cold brewskies and just CRANK the Offenbach, man. Oh man, those were the days. One time Needles showed up with this old rebuilt Suzuki and we were like, "How the fuck did you afford that, Needles? You're always broke!" And he was like, "Traded it. Straight up for a nickel bag of scag and Offenbach in America." And he was all proud of himself like that was a good thing to do! Needles was an asshole, man.
Yeah, I really have no idea.

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Hello, Ladies.
Update August 16, 2014:
Finally got around to playing this thing. Plays just fine. Great tracks. I wasn't in the mood for it at the time. I can't think of any amusing stories about it so... yeah.

Pete Seeger - Waist Deep in The Big Muddy and Other Love Songs
Alright, I'm attributing this one to my dad. I'm not the world's biggest fan of folk music (not sure you could tell). But even I can't hate Pete Seeger. I had no idea what this was but I googled it and apparently the title track is a big controversial anti-war song. So that's cool.
See, here's the thing about folk music. You got Pete Seeger. You got Bob Dylan. Then you got a bunch of crap that I can't freaking stand...

Leon Russell - Best of Leon
I remember really liking this guy when I was a kid. I have no idea whose this was. Might have been my stepfather's. Even if it was, you can be a dangerous psychopath and still have good taste in music.
