John Cougar - American Fool

"Little ditty, 'bout..." SHUT THE FUCK UP. Oh my god, seriously? I don't hate this guy. But for me, this is music to roll your eyes to.

I... mean... god... damn...

Big teased hair, popped collar on your strategically worn out denim jacket... just... oh, 1980s, how you hurt me so.

Speaking of which! Story time!

Roberta Flack - Feel Like Makin' Love

Me: "This is really good."
Amy: "Who is it?"
Me: "Roberta Flack."
Amy: "Oh, yeah..."

This was really surprisingly good and not at all what I expected. I think maybe I expected some Billy Ocean bullshit. I'm sorry, mom. But Billy Ocean? Damn. I only had a vague idea that this was R&B. I had heard the name but didn't remember what this music was like. It was pretty awesome. It's chilled out music. It's make-out music. Come to think of it, I probably oughta leave this where I can find it easy...

Anyway, it's a good record. I had no idea who this woman was until I listened to it and looked her up. No idea that she performed the original version of Killing Me Softly, later covered by The Fugees. Didn't know any of that.

So it was in nearly pristine condition out of the sleeve. Dusted it a little. It plays great. Will listen to this one again.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

This thing is pristine. I can't believe what good condition the LP is in. The jacket is about as good as most of the jackets in the collection which is not very good. I'm aware of the Ziggy Stardust incarnation of David Bowie so I was surprised that only one or two of the tracks on this jumped out at me...

Whoops. Very noticeable pop/skip right in the beginning of "Soul Love". Guess that just goes to show no matter how good it looks, you can't really tell how it's gonna play.

Anyway this is an interesting album and that's all you're gonna get on the write up because I have shit I oughta be cleaning right now.

99% sure the K does not stand for Kanye, but you never know.

Elvis Costello - My Aim Is true

This is my favorite Elvis Costello album. All my favorite songs of his are on it. It was in pretty great shape, cleaned up nicely (not that it really needed it), and plays great. When the first track, my very favorite Elvis Costello song, "Welcome to the Working Week" came on, James started shaking his butt and dancing like crazy. It was cute as hell and made me really happy to see.

Mott The Hoople - Live

Oh crap, how am I supposed to follow that? Look, it's in great shape. Cleaned up nicely. Plays beautifully. Has "All the Young Dudes" on it and it isn't Abbey Road. How's that?

Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner

So this one cleaned up nicely and plays well. I like Tom Waits. But I like old creepy The Black Rider, Tom Waits, not young, hip, witty Tom Waits. This is cool and all and I might play it at a party for background. I don't think I'd ever play it on my own. Nice live double album though and it's in pretty good shape so that's cool. I just really prefer Tom Waits' work from after he embraced the dark side of the force. This is from before.

Offenbach in America - Boston Pops Orchestra, Arthur Fiedler conductor

Oh, man! Offenbach! And in America! Man, let me tell you, back in the day, we'd kick back with a couple cold brewskies and just CRANK the Offenbach, man. Oh man, those were the days. One time Needles showed up with this old rebuilt Suzuki and we were like, "How the fuck did you afford that, Needles? You're always broke!" And he was like, "Traded it. Straight up for a nickel bag of scag and Offenbach in America." And he was all proud of himself like that was a good thing to do! Needles was an asshole, man.

Yeah, I really have no idea.

Pete Seeger - Waist Deep in The Big Muddy and Other Love Songs

Alright, I'm attributing this one to my dad. I'm not the world's biggest fan of folk music (not sure you could tell). But even I can't hate Pete Seeger. I had no idea what this was but I googled it and apparently the title track is a big controversial anti-war song. So that's cool.

See, here's the thing about folk music. You got Pete Seeger. You got Bob Dylan. Then you got a bunch of crap that I can't freaking stand...
